LAKE SUPERIOR CONSULTING is currently growing at a fast pace and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill a position as a Pipeline Engineer II at our office in Duluth, MN; Minneapolis, MN; Houston, TX; Pittsburgh, PA; Omaha, NE; Nashville, TN; or at a remote location.

The Pipeline Engineer II is responsible for pipeline related design and construction projects. Projects will be multi-disciplined covering civil, mechanical, and electrical works, with a strong focus on the utilities area of the business.

The Pipeline Engineer II is an entry level engineer who will receive training in the various phases of engineering work, while also learning procedures, specifications, industry terms, standards and work practices. Works with more independence than a Pipeline Engineer I. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Projects may involve estimating, contracting, design, construction management, integrity management, or commissioning functions for projects involving pipelines and related facilities
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Responsible for executing and managing projects within approved scope, schedule and budget.
  • Develop appropriate documentation outlining design parameters, assumptions and results such that project scope can be easily communicated to other relevant departments.
  • Initiate meetings, correspondence and discussion with appropriate project resources when project scope / schedule / cost require clarification.
  • Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers.
  • Recommend modifications to senior personnel for approval.
  • Ability to manage projects involving estimating, contracting, design, construction management, integrity management, or commissioning functions for projects involving pipelines and related facilities.
  • Completes projects using engineering principles and techniques.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Produce details of specifications and outline designs.
  • Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Organize and reduce data gathered, prepare charts and tables.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field, from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • EIT preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time for construction and operational field support.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Oil and gas industry experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in remote locations.

 

Physical Requirements and Demands:

  • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.  Routinely use standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently standing for long periods.
  • Occasional lifting in up to 50lbs.
  • Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.
  • Ability to work long hours and possible overtime when projects demand.
