Position Summary

The HydroChain team seeks a highly skilled, team-oriented, technical, and strategic Team Lead for Stormwater Engineering to facilitate significant growth in the stormwater market. Xerxes HydroChain stormwater management systems provide a portfolio of products to effectively manage the lifecycle of a raindrop.  The candidate will provide leadership to a team of engineers who are responsible for stormwater product development, continuous improvement, technical support, and design of the engineering system for Shawcor’s extensive HydroChain line of stormwater management products.  The HydroChain system captures, conveys, infiltrates, stores, and finally treats the stormwater to ultimately provide usable water back to the community. 

 

The Team Lead for Stormwater Engineering will work closely with the Sales Engineering Team to determine stormwater system layout and regulatory requirements, while adhering to stormwater industry standards and specifications, and assisting with local, state, and national approvals. 

 

The Team Lead for Stormwater Engineering will engage in a diverse portfolio of projects, while also building internal and external relationships to drive product development through the formulation and execution of key, long-term strategies. This position involves hands-on research and development of new designs and products for the Xerxes HydroChain system. It also involves working closely with the Xerxes Tanks product and applications engineering team. Candidates will possess and practice effective problem solving, clear & concise communication, a collaborative approach, and an aptitude for managing risk.

 

This position will be based in the Minneapolis area to facilitate regular meetings with the engineering team, customers, and other key members of the HydroChain and Xerxes teams. Flexible home/office hybrid work environment is typical.

 

In this role you will:

 

Engineering responsibilities

  • Assist the company to develop new engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements, including scope, planning, and execution.
  • Develop project plans, scopes, and deliverables by reviewing project stormwater reports, geotechnical reports, and project plans; adhering to local requirements; providing oversight of applicable product designs to be incorporated into civil plans.
  • Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements and assigning personnel.
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design and details, customer requirements, and performance standards.
  • Maintain quality control in every area (engineering design time/budget, scheduling, planning, personnel performance, team dynamics).
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring design progress, coordination of activities, and resolving problems.  Effectively communicate to management.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information; and recommending actions.
  • Assist with the various certification requirements of the HydroChain product
  • Assist with design improvement projects with the Xerxes Tank product and applications engineering team
  • Assist in the incorporation of differentiated concepts and technologies with opportunities for patent protection
  • Provide guidance to interdisciplinary teams on projects to ensure they follow internal processes while looking for opportunities to improve speed to market

 

Assist Sales to develop strategic national and commercial accounts

  • Lead the development of a design team.
  • Work in a sales and engineering environment. 
  • Deliver a value proposition with technical sales acumen, and coordinate with sales engineers to drive revenue growth. 
  • Collaborate with various departments to resolve project obstacles or roadblocks.

 

Contribute to business/strategic planning and communications

  • Establish technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management.
  • Assist in the evaluation for product advancement.
  • Challenge the status quo and drive change
  • Prepare and drive implementation of action plans for selected products/systems/ solutions.
  • Assist in providing leadership with the details to assess which projects have the highest potential value, impact, and strategic alignment for Xerxes
  • Contribute to the engineering integration of potential acquisitions and to any potential development of international markets as requested by management
  • Develop strategies for future projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources

 

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: 

  • The candidate should have wide-ranging experience in engineering, managing complex technical projects, organizational leadership, and strategic problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Work experience in stormwater facility design, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Work experience with stormwater management products and specifications
  • Work experience with hydrological and hydraulic modeling
  • Work experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Work experience with land development, construction plans, and construction permitting
  • Work experience with product installation, operation, and maintenance procedures

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Hire, train, develop, mentor, and evaluate team members to ensure they receive the initial and continuing leadership and development needed to enhance the existing engineering department and provide innovation for the future of the team. The role will be a hybrid of management, supervision, and execution to start out and evolve as HydroChain grows.  The strategic aspect includes setting goals for the team, hiring engineers and prioritizing projects. The technical aspect includes being actively involved in developing new and improving existing products, identifying requirements, and setting timelines.
