LAKE SUPERIOR CONSULTING is currently growing at a fast pace and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill a temporary position as an API Inspector at our office in Duluth, MN; Minneapolis, MN; Pittsburgh, PA; Omaha, NE; Houston, TX; Nashville, TN; or at a remote location.

 

The API Inspector is responsible for performing inspection of piping and fixed equipment, in addition to providing functional expertise related to Mechanical Integrity (MI) within the assigned project(s). Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution. The API Inspector will help establish efficient and effective MI inspection programs by performing physical inspections and/or testing of components, documenting inspections and testing in a timely manner and submitting recommendations to resolve action items or deficiencies identified during inspections.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight, interpretation, auditing, and approval of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) performed by others
  • Ensure that the inspections performed are meeting the inspection requirements of LSC NDT and Client programs
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the inspection of fixed equipment and piping, including the application of relevant NDE and the recommendation of necessary rerating, repairs or alterations are in accordance with the applicable industry codes and jurisdictional requirements
  • Periodically audit and evaluate examiners used for equipment examinations or NDE services
  • Be able to perform routine monitoring programs, internal and external inspections to maintain the integrity of fixed equipment
  • Able to collaborate with the project manager to organize, prioritize, and execute a heavy workload
  • Exhibit the ability to lead groups or teams
  • Be able to compile and submit all reporting documents and supporting files to the assigned designee on a daily basis

 

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • 2-5 years of experience in fixed equipment and piping inspection 
  • Current API-510, API-570 or API 653 certifications (at least one of the three certifications)
  • API 510 & API 570 certifications preferred
  • Project management and customer interaction experience
  • Certified welding inspector preferred
  • Basic computer skills, preferred
  • Be able to climb ladders and platforms up to 250 feet with a harness and lanyard
  • Be able to work outdoors in warm, hot, and cold conditions
  • Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry standards and recommended practices (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.) is preferred
  • Aerial lift certification preferred

 

Physical Requirements and Demands:

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment, as required
  • Must be able to travel to offsite locations for extended periods of time
  • Frequent periods of standing for long periods
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lb.
  • Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates
  • Ability to work long hours for extended periods when projects demand
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods
