The Industrial Engineer - Expansion reports directly to the Senior Manager Strategic Projects and indirectly to the Continuous Improvement Manager. The incumbent will be accountable for providing technical support to the manufacturing facility and processes while supporting the project management of the new site construction and commissioning. The Industrial Engineer will provide technical support for improving processes, training, equipment maintenance, and environmental conditions to achieve high quality throughput. This position will work with the entire operations organization which includes Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Logistics and Procurement. The Industrial Engineer will support the implementation of Shawcor Management System (SMS) at the new manufacturing facility, specifically for completion of continuous improvement projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Industrial Engineering
- Support development and standardization of manufacturing processes including creation/updates to SOPs, supporting new process roll outs and training
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through analysis of process parameters like downtime, efficiency, first time quality, and material variance using different lean tools like Gemba, Spaghetti Diagram, Value Stream Mapping, etc.
- Provide hands on support on process troubleshooting and process improvement while maintaining quality and product standards
- Lead process mapping exercises to understand current situation of work area or value-stream
- Identify and design jigs and fixtures to assist with safety or process improvements
- Lead cross-functional teams of Operators, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and shared services to bring improvement to process flow
- Provide technical support to Process, Product and Engineering Groups for new product development and equipment design
- Ensure that equipment meets performance specifications
- Review and validate training and maintenance programs for new equipment or processes
- Support troubleshooting of the manufacturing processes and equipment
- Support plant equipment improvements from the preparation of AFEs and execution plans through installation, commissioning, and rollout
Project Coordinating
- Coordinate projects related to operations, monitor performance and cost justification for projects
- Gather all project information: schedules, assignments, tasks, and project meetings
- Monitor and modify project schedule as assigned
- Maintain document control, database management, track project activities and team communication
- Develop, maintain and monitor project plans, including project schedules, budgets and expenditures, and risks

- Develop, maintain, and distribute project dashboard reports to all project team members and stakeholders
- Ensuring projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project
- Organize, attend, and chair all project and stakeholder meetings where appropriate
- Manage CAPEX budget tracker and forecast
SMS Advancement
- Support execution of continuous improvement initiatives & projects
- Participate in Lean Enterprise (SMS) and corporate optimization programs as required
- Support Best In Class (BIC) and SMS best practices
Commissioning
- Support Senior Manager Strategic Projects to ensure new plant is safely commissioned on time and on budget.
- Support training of new production team on safe operation of production equipment.
- Travel to existing production facility(ies) to gain necessary operating competencies for production processes, to provide technical support onsite for new facility.
Safety
- Maintain a safe working environment by aligning with corporate safety rules and regulations, and ensuring a culture of safety
- Ensure that the equipment and process operate efficiently and safely
- Provide support to the generation of HAAs and SOPs
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering with a minimum 3-5 Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage small projects and achieve measurable results in a cross-functional work environment
- Able to travel up to 15% for the job requirements
- Excellent planning, time management, collaboration, decision making and organization
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and hands-on attitude
- Proficient problem-solving ability
- Strong independent work ethic
- Computer literacy over a broad range of applications including MS Office suite (MS Project)
- Candidates with exposure to plastic/composite production and with industrial background will be preferred
- Training and experience in Lean/Six Sigma preferred (A3 Problem Solving, FMEA, 5S, DMP)
- Must have excellent communication skills (written/verbal)
- Proven leadership skills and strong process knowledge
