LAKE SUPERIOR CONSULTING is currently growing at a fast pace and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill a position as a Mechanical Design Supervisor at our office in Duluth, MN.

 

The Mechanical Design Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the IE-Facilities Mechanical Design team.  This position is responsible for coordinating allocation of design resources in conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering Manager and Project Managers. The design supervisor is also responsible for ensuring quality assurance of all design deliverables to clients, both internal and external. This position will also work closely with the Design Technical Specialist to develop and implement process improvements both within the Mechanical team and across all Integrated Engineering disciplines.

 

The Mechanical Design Supervisor will also be responsible for providing design services in a lead or supportive role to the individual project teams. The position will include accountability to grow and develop the Mechanical Design team beyond their current capabilities and implement a continuous improvement plan with the assistance of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Facilities Engineering Director, and Design Technical Specialist.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work in close collaboration with LSC's Project Technical team(s) to assess opportunities, generate proposals and assemble project teams to successfully execute projects.
  • Implement technical design process improvements to give LSC a competitive edge in the marketplace.
  • Work closely between engineering, design, and project management to ensure project teams are communicating and completing work to schedule.
  • Recommend software solutions for the greatest efficiency and quality of design deliverables.
  • Work with all facilities design locations to address concerns with remote office collaboration.
  • Maintain proper document management control for all design documents produced by the mechanical design team.
  • Coordinate with IE-Pipeline and IM groups when necessary to provide design effort leveling across the LSC organization.
  • Ensure design quality processes, document management processes, and drafting standards processes are followed.
  • Maintain key metrics for efficiency and quality of deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to direct reports.
  • Responsible for utilization of IE-Facilities Design team with respect to company goals and direction.
  • Perform billable design execution.  It is expected that the mechanical design supervisor will be an expert CAD user and will need to continue to execute work to maintain skills and perspective.
  • The mechanical design supervisor must have sufficient knowledge of engineering processes and needs to ensure that engineering software and CAD software integration is effective.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet project and administrative requirements

 

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
  • Minimum 2-year associates degree, 4-year degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven computer skills: Autodesk software, Solidworks, Microsoft Access, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess problems and quickly develop solutions.
  • Working knowledge of engineering and the application of engineering methods to develop code compliant facility design drawing packages.
  • Oil & gas, pipeline, or related industry experience required.

 

Physical Requirements and Demands:

  • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.  Routinely use standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50lbs.
  • Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.
  • Ability to work long hours and overtime when projects demand.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
